Soy Goodness: Raising Money for Red Cross Canada
People came out in droves despite the sweltering heat to the 12th Annual Vancouver Chinatown Festival which was held on August 6-7, 2011. This year’s theme was Chowdown in Chinatown and there was plenty of food, drinks, entertainment and games for the whole community to enjoy. All the volunteers at this festival were young people and it was truly great to see them diligently working hard to preserve the Chinese cultural heritage. Mayor Gregor Robertson was on hand to speak about the revitalization of Chinatown and the city’s ongoing commitment to the neighborhood.

Superior Tofu Ltd. was a Diamond Sponsor and this year’s proceeds go to Canadian Red Cross for the Horn of Africa drought fund. Altogether, we donated 1000 cups of Organic Soy Pudding and 100 bottles of soy drinks to the event. Last year, we raised a total of $1619.20 for Red Cross for the flooding in Pakistan. This year was another successful affair and we raised $1694.50 from the sales of our Northern Style Tofu, Tofu Puffs, Stir-Fry Tofu, Organic Soy Pudding and Soy Milk.
We blended up over 5000 cups of Low-Fat Easy Strawberry Soy Smoothies and handed them mout to much-appreciative people. Intermittently, we also gave out samples of our different flavours of Soy Desserts. Many people crowded around our booth in order to take recipes handouts, donate money to Red Cross, buy products and taste samples. As well, we enjoyed presenting on the Main Stage and demonstrating the easy recipe for a Low-Fat Strawberry Banana Soy Smoothie.

We are dedicated to giving back to the community through the Superior Tofu Community Fund with the Vancouver Foundation. Much needed provisions have been made possible to people in need through this Fund over the years. Thank you to everyone for visiting our booth at the 12th Annual Vancouver Chinatown Festival. We look forward to next year’s Festival!
